Established in 1981 by Gary Clements, ProLawn started off as a small lawn service company called Prescription Lawn in Winchester, Virginia. Within three years, this operation grew to about one hundred regular clients and was doing quite well for a one-man operation.
In 1984, Gary’s neighbor, Allen Rogers, purchased the company and renamed the business ProLawn. Over the past four decades, ProLawn has expanded to serve the Northern Shenandoah Valley and the metro area of Northern Virginia as well as Martinsburg and surrounding areas in West Virginia.
At ProLawn, one of our main goals is sustainability defined as: “the ability to meet current needs without hindering the ability to meet the needs of future generations in terms of economic, environmental and social challenges.”
We like to think of our clients as our neighbors… because you are! Would we want our children and grandchildren to play on toxic lawns? What kind of planet do we want to leave behind? These are the types of questions that are at the forefront when we develop and update our lawn applications and services.
Our licensed and certified technicians conduct a complimentary lawn evaluation and soil pH soil test on the first service visit. The results help us create a unique, agronomic plan for your lawn. We don’t do “cookie-cutter” programs. With each service, your technician rates the lawn in three areas to gauge progress and recommend adjustments. Organic lawn health care is not a one-season “fix all”. Organics take time to work and become sustainable. Each year’s services depend upon the lawn’s response, the weather and changing environmental conditions.
Examples of Environmentally-Friendly Practices
Our use of seaweed extracts as a root growth stimulator precludes the use of phosphorous as it is one of the worst polluters of the Chesapeake Bay. ProLawn’s use of organics has allowed the reduction of nitrogen, another bay pollutant, while not sacrificing the deep green color desired in our lawns. The commercial ground maintenance division makes use of recycled products, like leaf mulch, to be more environmentally friendly. The commercial snow removal division employs the use of salt brine to reduce the amount of salts introduced into the environment.
Your ProLawn Guarantee of Satisfaction
ProLawn is committed to providing the highest quality lawn care possible. Communication is essential to your satisfaction. If there’s ever a concern or question, we respond quickly. Exceptional client service is one of the differences that sets ProLawn apart from other lawn care companies.
If you aren’t satisfied, just let us know. We’ll work to make it right. Having experienced poor customer service ourselves, we understand what you want: great service. With that in mind, we encourage you to pick up the phone and give us a call, whether you want to set up an appointment for a free estimate with one of our experienced and friendly service consultants or if you just have a question.
Allen Rogers, a native of Winchester, Virginia, is the current President of ProLawn. At age 10, he started selling newspapers for the Winchester Evening Star. Fortunate to attend Wake Forest University on a football scholarship, Allen launched a career in real estate in the late 70’s shortly after graduating. His next career move was as a National Accounts Manager for a regional trucking company. But Allen had a dream of owning his own business. When Prescription Lawn Care became available in 1984, he purchased the business. By 1985, he was immersed in it full time.
