Company History
A Humble Beginning with a Vision for Sustainability
In 1984, Allen purchased a small lawn care company called Prescription Lawn Care, started in 1981, from his neighbor. At that time, the company operated with a single tank mounted on an Isuzu pickup truck and used primarily chemical treatments. But Allen had a different vision for the business. By 1985, he changed the company’s name to ProLawn and introduced the motto, “Our Organic Approach Makes the Difference.”
This early focus on organic based and sustainable lawn care set ProLawn apart from others in the industry. While most companies relied on chemicals, Allen knew that a healthier, greener lawn could be achieved with a focus on environmentally responsible practices. He also knew the key to long-term results required a focus on soil health. This was a forward-thinking approach, especially since organic based and sustainable lawn care was not yet widely accepted.
